Today In Reunions: Public Image Limited, The Bee Gees, And Other Bands Rise Again

• Reality-TV refugee John Lydon has announced that Public Image Limited has ceased its 17-year hiatus and will play a five-date reunion tour this winter, albeit without original members Jah Wobble and Keith Levene. Here’s hoping they at least get a TV appearance or two out of it. [Guardian]

• Robin Gibb used his appearance on the BBC’s cricket show Test Match Special to tout upcoming Bee Gees shows featuring him and his brother Barry; after Robin’s twin, Maurice, passed away in 2003 the brothers had said that they would not perform under the Bee Gees moniker again, but apparently the surviving Gibbs have “got through the breakwater of emotions” and will start performing live shortly. • The Stooges will bring Raw Power guitarist James Williamson back into the fold for a performance of that album in its entirety next May. [RS]

Stooges’ Stolen Truck Recovered, Equipment Still Missing

The rental truck that housed Iggy and the Stooges’ gear when it was stolen sometime Monday morning has been found, but the equipment inside has yet to be recovered. The Stooges’ show tonight in Toronto will go on despite the loss, but the band members will have to use rented and donated equipment until their stuff turns up. All the recent talk about The Weirdness has prompted us to dig up our old Stooges records, starting with 1973’s brutal Raw Power. This is one of the most hotly contested albums among Stooges die-hards, many of whom are still sitting in a bar in Ann Arbor, debating whether David Bowie’s initial mix of the album is superior to Iggy Pop’s re-mix. All we know is that “Penetration” is still one of the band’s most underrated tracks, one that sounds like the Doors aiming for a Top 40 hit, and failing wonderfully:

It didn’t take long for the new Stooges song, “Idea Of Fun,” to course through the blogosphere, much the same way that protein shakes course through Iggy Pop’s gangly, spidery innards. It’s the first song from the group in 275 years, and boy, do they sound pissed:
