"Rock Band 2": Let The Incessant Hyping Begin

The $200 price tag and the irresistible lure of Dr. Mario have so far prevented me from getting into Rock Band, but the first volume has proven to be quite popular—and rumors of which bands will have music featured in part two have already started to swirl. A press release for the completely unrelated game Age Of Conan mentioned Swedish act Turbonegro as being "featured in Rock Band 2"; Bad Religion's Brett Gurewitz Twittered about tweaking Bad Religion's "Sorrow" for the forthcoming game; and a couple of obituaries for Bo Diddley have claimed that his guitar will be "featured in the impending video game." Get ready, pseudo-rockers! [1UP]

Turbonegro Guitarist Won't Let Hodgkin's Stop The Rock

Euroboy, the Turbonegro guitarist whose family probably calls him "Knut Schreiner," has issued a statement about the "serious illness" that forced the band to cancel multiple tour dates, including Coachella (leaving bassist Happy-Tom with time to find boats full of pot while surfing in California): "In March I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease, which is a 'lucky' version of lymphoma cancer (90% percent get healed, according to Wikipedia and other and more reliable health information sources). Since then I've been undergoing chemotherapy every 14th day. That has kept me out of business for a while now, not being able to tour, but things have gone a lot better than feared. Last week they found out that my cure has so far been successful and my chances are as good as it gets." Unsurprisingly, not even cancer could make a member of Turbonegro lose their sense of humor. Turbonegro's Happy-Tom Witnesses The Arrival Of An Abandoned "Pot Boat"

When California's KUSI interviewed a "surfer" in Sunset Cliffs about a boat containing marijuana that had washed up on the store, they clearly didn't realize that Tom Seltzer was better known as Happy-Tom, bassist for the legendary Norwegian band Turbonegro. If you don't know Turbonegro, I recommend checking out the following songs: "Rock Against Ass," "Are You Ready (For Some Darkness)," "The Midnight NAMBLA," "Everybody Loves A Chubby Dude," and "Do You Dig Destruction?" For fans who don't want to watch the entire broadcast, we've got Happy-Tom's quotes after the jump. More »

Leak Of The Day: Turbonegro Heads Into "Retox"

If you like cartoonish sexuality, over-the-top metal-pop riffs and bad-pun song titles, then you're no doubt familiar with the long-running Norwegian outfit Turbonegro—hell, if you're into all of that stuff, you're probably a member of Turbonegro. Retox, the band's 8th album, arrives in overseas stores later this month, but it's already on the Internet; we wanted to post the most insanely monikered track, and it was a tough call between "Stroke The Shaft" and this one: More »

Leak Of The Day: Can You Dig The New Turbonegro Single?

The new single from Turbonegro—a.k.a. the finest sexually ambiguous death-punk-metal act to ever come from Scandinavia—has found its way to our iTunes player, which accurately characterizes the song as "DeathPunk." And while "Do You Dig Destruction" doesn't quite reach the daffy heights of such time-tested classics as "Blow Me (Like The Wind)" and "Drenched In Blood (D.I.B.)," it does maintain the band's riff-roaring sound: More »
