Wire Did Not Get A Complimentary Thighmaster After Meeting Suzanne Somers

Make sure you watch the interview following this 1987 performance of "Drill" on The Late Show, in which the erstwhile Chrissy Snow called the British art-rock outfit "sort of a far-out kinda group." And that's the least awkward part. (Really, I feel like describing it in any more detail would utterly spoil it.) [YouTube; HT Ned Raggett]

Things That Look 100% Awesome, Part II From Wire's official site: "[D]ue to Bruce Gilbert's resignation from the group in 2004, upcoming Wire gigs will have Margaret Fiedler McGinnis augmenting the band on rhythm guitar. Known for her work in Laika (masterminds of one of the best Wire covers to date, the Whore version of German Shepherds), her live credentials are further enhanced by her being a part of PJ Harvey's touring band earlier in the decade." As if there weren't already enough reasons to head on out to Calgary for this summer's Sled Island festival, here's another; Fiedler is an incredible live guitarist, and perhaps I can buttonhole her to talk about 1995's Silver Apples Of The Moon, one of the best albums to come out in a terrific year, music-wise. Filesharing brings money to someone, albeit in a totally roundabout way: "Wire have received a nice paycheck thanks to I Don't Understand being used on a recent Victoria's Secret advert. And how did that come about? Someone at the lingerie company's advertising agency was trying to download an episode of The Wire TV series from a file-sharing site, but accidentally ended up with Wire's Read & Burn 01 album."
