Wyclef Jean Released From Hospital After Being Shot In Haiti
Sun Mar 20 2011 by Idolator Staff
Wyclef Jean was shot in Port-au-Prince, Haiti late last night, but has already been released from the hospital. Reportedly armed gunmen attacked a vehicle containing the former Fugee (as well as Busta Rhymes) and shot him in the hand. While the “Pou Kepa” singer was disqualified from running for presidency in Haiti last fall, he has remained politically active in his native homeland, campaigning in support of candidate Michel Martellyh. Fortunately, the injury was not severe, Wyclef survived his second recent hospital stay, and, as fellow Fugee Pras tweeted earlier: “Everyone can relax Wyclef is fine... They can't stop us not one bullet or a machine gun!!!!!!!”
Pop Music’s 13 Biggest Fails Of 2010
Mon Dec 20 2010 by Erika Brooks Adickman
Unfortunately, 2010 couldn't be all Gaga mega-music videos and Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasies. As the year comes to its close, it's time to revisit and reflect on some of pop's biggest faux pas from the past year — how else are our favorite artists going to learn from their mistakes unless we rake them over the coals one last time? We've compiled music's 13 lowest moments from the last twelve months, and though Miley's birthday trip to Salvia Land is on the list, it didn't make number one — jump below to see what did.

Wyclef Jean Hospitalized For Exhaustion
Mon Sep 27 2010 by Becky Bain
Less than a week after Wyclef Jean officially withdrew his bid for the Haitian presidency, the singer-activist has been hospitalized for "stress and fatigue" in New Jersey. A source claims that Jean has been suffering headaches while "following a very heavy schedule that has taken him to Europe twice, Asia and Africa, at the same time he's working to finish his upcoming album and he has been meeting with a few head of States during the General Assembly Session at the U.N." Maybe it's for the best he was disqualified from running for President, since he clearly has enough on his plate at the moment. [Billboard]
The Morning Mix: 50 Cent Feuding With Oprah Winfrey
Wed Sep 22 2010 by Becky Bain
Did You Hear?
:: No, not that Oprah Winfrey. Fiddy, whose dog is named after the television icon, launched into a major rap beef with his own pooch, uploading pics of him threatening the dog with a knife. And like most of the other offensive comments on his Twitter page, it isn't as funny as he thinks is. We don't think anybody will be Oprahfying 50 Cent anytime soon. [E! Online]
:: Complex presents The 50 Worst Rock Fails of all time. Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy is #7 and Ozzy Osbourne biting the head off a real (dead) bat on stage is #2, so you know #1 has to be all sorts of ridiculous to top that one. [Complex]
:: Spinner does a Q&A with self-proclaimed "nerd" Robyn. [Spinner]
:: Wyclef Jean has officially dropped out of the Haitian Presidential race. [Just Jared]
:: Buzzworthy sits down with T.I. for an in-depth interview. The chat took place before his recent trouble with the law, but there's plenty here about his upcoming album, King Uncaged, and his appreciation for his Takers co-star Chris Brown. [MTV Buzzworthy]
After the jump, check out which stars will be lighting up the tube tonight. More »

Wyclef Jean Writes New Song In Response To Disqualification
Thu Aug 26 2010 by Becky Bain
We suppose Wyclef Jean can no longer sing his tune "If I Was President" without feeling a little depressed, so the singer is penning new songs to reflect his current situation. Last night Jean posted a new song on his Twitter page, the emotional track "Pou Kepa", which he sings entirely in Creole. Hear it below.

The Morning Mix: Do Kanye And Justin Know We Already Walked This Way?
Mon Aug 23 2010 by Becky Bain
Did You Hear?
:: If you thought Kanye West's evidently-for-real (no, seriously) team-up with Justin Bieber and Raekwon sounds odd, regain perspective by recalling all the other strange-but-true hip-hop collaborations from the past. Yes, Aerosmith and Run D.M.C. are on Popeater's list. [Popeater]
:: A photo history of Mr. West at the VMAs, from his triumphant debut (a performance of "Jesus Walks") to the Hennessy-fueled Swiftgate. [Buzzworthy]
:: Madonna is facing a lawsuit for adopting the name "Material Girl" for the fashion line she started with her daughter. Apparel maker LA triumph claims it and another company have been selling a young womens' fashion line under that name since 1997. But gosh, what could have inspired them to use that phrase? Certainly a huge pop song. [EW Music Mix]
:: Wyclef's longshot bid for the presidency of Haiti isn't quite dead yet. Though the nation's election board disqualified him, he says his lawyers are planning an appeal. [E! Online]
:: MGMT posed at Radio City Music Hall with the friendly monsters of Yo Gabba Gabba. Sadly, they didn't perform "Art Is Everywhere," one of the best pop numbers ever to air on the Nick Jr. show. [Just Jared]

Wyclef Jean Disqualified For Haitian Presidency
Sat Aug 21 2010 by Idolator Staff
For Wyclef Jean, "If I Was President" will have to remain a song, not a stump speech. Haiti's board of elections has squashed the singer/producer's plan to run for president of his native country just two weeks after he announced his intent to seek office. Wyclef's eligibility had been a question since the outset — Haiti's constitution requires that candidates live in the country for five consecutive years, but the one-time Fugees musician has resided and paid taxes in New Jersey during that time. Check out Wyclef's reaction the news below: More »
The Morning Mix: Money Is Certainly Not One Of Jay-Z’s 99 Problems
Wed Aug 18 2010 by Becky Bain
Did You Hear?
:: Jay-Z tops Forbes' list of the top-earning rappers of the last year, earning $63 million. He's followed by Diddy ($30 million) and Akon ($21 mill, thanks in part to signing Lady Gaga to his label). Since they're all so rich, maybe they can afford to take a creative writing class. [Spin]
:: The Backstreet Boys and New Kids On The Block are going on tour together. Commence celebrating if you are between the ages of 28 and 35 years old and were a teen when either of those groups were at their peak. [E! Online]
:: Usher and Chris Brown are reportedly heading on tour together, too. But will there be middle-aged women throwing their bras and control-top pantyhose at the stage like there will be at the Backstreet Boys/New Kids concert? We don't think so. Point: boy bands. [Just Jared]
:: Pras explains why he won't be voting for his former Fugees bandmate Wyclef Jean for President of Haiti. To sum it up: "He's not the one that's able to unite the whole country." Wyclef, a rebuttal? [Vulture]
:: Check out 10 things Kanye West has enthusiastically endorsed on his Twitter, from leather pants to Justin Bieber to life in general. [MTV Buzzworthy]

The Morning Mix: Robbie Williams Is A Taken Man
Mon Aug 9 2010 by Becky Bain
:: Robbie Williams married his longtime girlfriend Ayda Field over the weekend in Beverly Hills. Congrats! No word on if Robbie was the rock DJ at his wedding reception. [E! Online]
:: Is Lady Gaga planning to star in her own movie? Rumors are swirling that it would be a combination of Dreamgirls and Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. We're skeptical of these reports, but if she ever does make a movie musical, no doubt people will inevitably accuse her of ripping off Burlesque. [MTV]
:: As if being publicly blasted by Sean Penn and your own bandmate was bad enough for his Presidential campaign, Wyclef Jean reportedly owes $2.1 million in back taxes. Jean responded in the third person, saying "There is no situation of Wyclef Jean that we will ignore... we respect the IRS very much." [Celebuzz]
:: Lea Michele is singing Britney Spears' "Baby... One More Time" during Glee's Britney episode if this on-set photo in any indication. [Just Jared]
:: New York mag has its own indie-minded suggestions for the Song of the Summer. The list is lacking in much Enrique Iglesias, but there's some Robyn, so we approve. [Vulture]

Sean Penn Is “Suspicious” Of Wyclef Jean’s Presidential Bid
Fri Aug 6 2010 by Becky Bain
Wyclef Jean is officially running for President of Haiti, and it wouldn't be a political campaign without some mudslinging. Jean has already picked up several detractors, including Oscar nominee Sean Penn and his own Fugees bandmate, Pras. When you can't even get the members of your own band to back you up, you know you've got a tough road ahead.
