From the "when selecting music for your ad campaign goes horribly, horribly awry" file: Some genius decided to sell the rights to "Viva Las Vegas" to an ad for Viagra. What's next, "Hound Dog" for Cialis? [azcentral.com]

  • I saw the commercial last night and I don't see what the big deal is. I suppose hardcore Elvis fans and Las Vegans with a lot of civic pride could be upset.

Here's something interesting from the source article:

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which runs 14 AIDS clinics in the U.S. and seven pharmacies, sued Pfizer in February claiming its Viagra marketing encourages recreational sex that can increase the risk of users getting the HIV virus. The lawsuit was dismissed, said Michael Weinstein, the president of the foundation.
Geez, this foundation couldn't find anyone more guilty of encouraging recreational sex to sue? Like, say, the recording industry? Although, I imagine their real goal was to negotiate lower prices for AIDS drugs in a settlement.

  • @Hyman Decent: well, for starters, i'll never be able to watch 'the big lebowski' in the same way.

    signed,
worked in the sports industry for three years, and saw way too many ads for viagra, cialis, enzyte, et al.
