We love the oft-forwarded Museum of Bad Album Covers, but the site's archives tend to focus on old-school schlock from the vinyl era. So, in an attempt to support today's marginally talented graphic designers, Idolator is happy to announce its first annual Ugliest Album Cover of the Year awards. We'll be periodically updating the site with the most god-awful new releases we can find—and we'll be leaning on you guys for suggestions. At the end of the year, we'll award the winner with a copy of Smell the Glove.
Our first contestant is the Sleepy Jackson's Personality (One Was A Spider One Was A Bird), which is also in the running for the Worst Title of the Year. The design motif here is Pen & Pixel meets Matthew Barney, and it raises several interesting questions: Why is lead singer Luke Steele holding himself? What do the hushed models represent? And has everyone at Astralwerks just completely given up?
Make sure to post your own nominees below. And keep an eye out for the awards, which will air Nov. 19 on Fox Kids, with hosts Mark McGrath and Lil' Romeo.
