Have you heard? This year marks the 40th anniversary of Rolling Stone! Factoids from this nearly advertorial profile: The magazine is usually "too busy" to look back upon its past; publisher Jann Wenner has "never felt it more urgent than today to learn from our past and really engage the present so we can save the future." Be sure to "engage the present" by checking out "artist of the day" Bon Jovi on theRS site. [LA Times via Seattle Times]

Oh, please, stop it before I throw up.
After reading through 1/3 of that Summer of Love issue, I think Rolling Stone should change its name to ASK ME HOW AWESOME THE 60'S WERE Stone.
This past weekend, in a fit of stupidity and boredom, I bought this wankfest 40th anniversary issue ($7!) at a Walgreen's in Bumblefuck, TN on the way home from a road trip. Never again. A good 3/4 of the articles contained some variation of the "we knew we were changing the world" line, and two articles mentioned that John Phillips wrote "San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair)"... fascinating.
