Until now, indie folk band Iron And Wine's most iconic cover image was a beatific little painting of beardo frontman Sam Beam reclining in the high grass. Hardly the stuff of high anxiety. But now that they've unleashed this day-glo pink and purple hell hound on my psyche, I'll never be able to associate them with anything other than repressed childhood memories of mean dogs and late '80s color combos worn by my sister in the high season of crimping. This is like if Hades lent Cerberus out to guard the Claire's Boutique in the Paramus Mall. Thanks for the nightmares, Beam.

Aw, but I like this.
He painted it himself. The Boy With A Coin single has the same color scheme and style, but much less of a sense of imminent mauling.
Love the headline. Like all great art, the interpretations are endless. This one had not yet occurred to me.
Yeah what WAS he doing to get that surprised look of betrayal from that dog anyways?
Zombiedog. Wasn't that a Beefheart tune?
I like it.
I like it too. That cover needs to be in glowing neon and feature more Perry Farrell before it moves into the Worst Album chase.
I hate to say, but I think this is actually one of the best covers of the year. The inside of the gatefold is pretty cool too--the ink dripping from the bottom of the painting.
And it's a solid album.
So there.
