Tucked inside Michael Musto's latest laundry list of blind items was this nugget on an ungrateful elder: "What wacky singer flinches when asked if she feels she's influenced a current superstar? (She feels the superstar can't really sing and therefore the question is kinda insulting.)" A current superstar who can't sing? Oh, the humanity. Anyway, our guesses are after the jump, poll-style:
Who Put the Goth in Gotham? [Village Voice]

Comments
Wait, hold on, who DID put the goth in Gotham?
how did you guys know that "valley of the dolls" is one of my favorite books? somebody has been reading my dream journal again...
I'm reasonably sure that Britney Spears can't pronounce Bjork, much less be influenced by her.
I can't imagine anyone taking the time to interview Debbie Harry or Cyndi Lauper, and I can't imagine Ronnie Spector taking the time to listen to Amy Winehouse. So I guess I vote for Bjork?
@bess marvin, girl detective: So from two posts on two separate Gawker sites, I've learned that "Valley of the Dolls" is one of your favorite books and "Dazed and Confused" is one of your favorite movies.
Please. Tell me more about yourself, Bess.
@Fried Bologna Is Back!: I'm not sure, but I just want to thank you for bringing the Rally Monkey over to these parts.
whenever i think "wacky singer," i think of diana ross. is that bad? she's not on the list, and i guess beyonce can technically sing. i'm lost on the list provided by the jezzies.
@rubyruby: Oops. Sorry, linked from Jezebel. What I mean is the list provided by the Idolator gang. Either way, Musto has stumped me again.
Whitney Houston/Beyonce Knowles
When i think wacky singer, I think Whitney Houston.
But I voted for Ronnie/Amy...
@Cavorter: lol, great minds think a like!
@rubyruby: Oh, that's a good guess! I didn't even think of that one.
@Charlie Kerfelds Jetsons Tee: I like long walks on the beach and a man who replaces the water in my bong. And yourself?
I'm going to guess off list too and say Cher/Winehouse.
@Charlie Kerfelds Jetsons Tee: I've already said too much. How about yourself, I mean besides being my #1 fan.
@bess marvin, girl detective: You're onto me, Darling.
Damn these Gawker sites and their lack of an "edit" button, huh?
@rubyruby: I cosign this guess. Diana Ross is the first name that pops up when I hear "wacky diva", and there's that obvious Supremes/Destiny's Child parallel.
I say Whitney/Rihanna--
@TheNotoriousT:
That was actually going to be my first choice (due to the whole lip-synching thing Britney seems to have going on...)---but then I read your incredibly valid point, & proceeded to spray my monitor with coffee. Thank you! :-)
Now, I'm stumped. And I can't see the remaining choices, anyway, d/t the liquid all over the screen.
@Fried Bologna Is Back!:
actually DH has been in beauty news lately for admitting to using black-sheep embryo injections back in the '80's and CL has been doing press for her True Colors tour this summer. ergo: interviews.
@TheNotoriousT:
but it IS a crackhead thing to say, and so toally in character!
I hope it's not Debbie/Lily, 'cause Debbie can't sing either.
@TheNotoriousT: Of course, most people don't know how to pronounce "Bjork". As Iceland's sweetheart says, "Bjork, rhymes with jerk."
You forgot Dolly Parton/Jessica Simpson, which is my vote.
The Debbie/Lily is the one. Of all these women, Lily is the only one who flinches at anything she doesn't like.
Er, Debbie that is -- coffee please.
I really hope it's Cyndi/Gwen cuz someone needs to be telling Ms. Stefani her voice sucks.
It can't be Debbie/Lily. Did anyone see them on The Today Show? Lily can actually sing, and definitely proved she had better pipes than Debbie that morning.
My instincts want to say Diana Ross/Christina Aguilera, despite the fact that Xtina doesn't really sound like Ross.
The answer is Diana Ross/Beyonce. Diana Ross was quoted at one time saying that she felt that Bey, acclaimed her status based primarily on her looks and sex appeal. She sent a message to Bey, to keep her clothes on and be a true diva. That was too easy.
