Why the heck would I want to listen to a Mars Volta CD with Castlevania-like guitar, when I could just listen to the Minibosses actually play the music from Castlevania (and Ninja Gaiden, Mega Man 2, etc...)
I have not heard the album yet, but I liked both Deloused and Frances. I give Mars Volta the benefit of the doubt, but a bad record would not shock me.
As far as video game music...well, if I may make a shameless plug, you should check out Maggot Twat. 8 Bit Apocalypse.
