Yes, that's Roxy Music bon vivant Bryan Ferry—a man who taught an entire generation of '70s British rockers how to keep up with the rigorous standards of high fashion—modeling Burberry in this week's New Yorker. Look, the guy helped write "Virginia Plain," so he can wear whatever the hell he damn pleases, but doesn't he realize that Burberry is pretty much written off in the U.K. as low-rent thug wear? Can't someone get Jeffrey Sebelia to intervene?

I weep. Also, isn't anything anyone else other than them anathema to the WSJ types?
I'm mostly curious about the lapels. And the Romo refugee.
I liked Bryan Ferry more when he was coaching the Houston Rockets to NBA Championships.
He might be taking a turn for the chav, but I'd still hit it.
"Chav to Love"
That link should work now. Sorry. I was distracted by the "Weird Al" video.
He looks like a burn victim. Or Eddie Argos of Art Brut.
He looks like a burn victim. Or Eddie Argos of Art Brut. I can't decide if they're different or one in the same.
Burberry's been working *real* hard to dispel that association with thugs and lowlifes. They even hired a new president of operations, an American, no less. Presumably hiring Bryan Ferry is just part of the scheme to class up the joint.
I think that the signature plaid would be quite dashing on him. He should hang out on Canal St., or something.
Bryan Ferry could probably make a Burberry plaid baseball cap and a track suit look suave.
Nah nah nah, you're thinking of Burberry London, the chav. K-fash side of the brand, the threads that famiglia Federline have piled up in their mock Louis XV closets.
Ferry (alongside his foxhunting - hurrah! - son, Stella Tennant and Kate Moss) is advertising Burberry Prorsum, sister label to Burberry London and VERY high-end, indeed. Don't knock the Ferryman (even though his name is Bryan).
Otis Ferry is in some of the ads too I think. I'm not sure they'll turn around their image using a drunk-driving fox-hunter, but hey - maybes this is why I don't work in advertising!
Hi there - as a UK reader I feel I should point out a major distinction here. Burberry - as in the proper clothes - is seen very differently to Burberry - the check pattern. It's the Burberry pattern, which is used sparingly (ie in the lining) or not at all on the 'proper' clothes that is, or was linked to chav culture. Burberry the brand remains upmarket and has largly shrugged off the 'chav' association. Anyway, chavs are SO 2003......
And Bryan still looks great for a man his age, I'd still want to be him.
Andy
He sort of looks like one of the missing Baldwins...
