Glam piano duo KRISTEENYOUNG has lost its opening slot on Morrissey's run of shows in New York because of a statement Kristeen uttered onstage Tuesday night that, to quote her, "has been perceived as being profane (when, actually, one of the two words in question is a scientific term found in junior high, health class text books, and the other word, I feel most would agree, is lightweight slang) or defamatory." The joke, according to someone from the always-reliable Brooklyn Vegan comments section:
"Morrissey gives great head, oops I mean cunnilingus"
Now, I know Morrissey isn't exactly sex-positive, but ... really? Perhaps that slip of the tongue was just a convenient excuse to allow him to cut his losses without saying "My fans hate you" straught out; according to a friend of mine who was at Tuesday night's show, apparently, two songs into the KY set someone screamed "You suck," and her response was "that's okay, if you don't like something, you should express it," which was met with groans. Either way, it's kind of cheesy that the show's new opener is named after a Smiths song.
UPDATE: OK, actually the band is called Girl In A Coma. But still.

i hope morissey gets craigbusted and soon.
The Pope of Mope does not appreciate such vulgarity!
Her follow-up joke was about burgers, I guess.
Believe it or not, this story has been consuming my entire day as I'm filing a long-planned tour wrap. The debate on morrissey-solo.com is edifying.
why couldn't this happen during the sf shows. I had to expierence her shitty music for four nights. ugh.
You aren't kidding!:
Just as with Christ, who was despised and threatened with death from the first moment of his public tenure, you Pharisees have gotten her on a technicality.
One better than even the civil rights Oink rant, I think.
Wow, drama! That was worth the reduced $20 price of admission, huh?
Re: Girl In A Coma
Actually a decent little band.
Oh my God, this story has followed me.
For the record: KRISTEENYOUNG are Kristeen Young (piano) Baby Jeff White (drums; there's a reason why the band is named after the frontwoman, but I shall resist the urge to go on). They have been around for a decade or so in St. Louis and New York, and play a sort of aggressive post-opera electronica with weird, often feminist, usually purposely strident and sarcastic lyrics. Both members are part Native American and seem pretty invested in that, and "deliberately annoying" has been a self-descriptor.
In other words, they're an art band, and one of which Morrissey was an aggressive fan until Wednesday. His hardline fans, conversely, notoriously disliked them.
...And so this made Idolator (as I've just found out after breathing a sigh of relief: "oh, God, good, time to check Idolator rather than Represent The KRISTEENYOUNG Fans any longer"). But joy: it looks like atop her other woes, Kristeen is about to become best-known as the woman who got kicked off the Morrissey tour for making a joke about oral sex. Hence my little blurb. I felt someone, somewhere in this story, should mention what the band actually sounds like.
But it has to be true... Morrissey does give good head.
How else does it explain his popularity, when the driving force of the Smiths is Johnny Marr???
