Because her young life hasn't been warped enough, Miley "Hannah Montana" Cyrus has "[extended] her hugely popular concert tour with 14 more performances in January," by which we're assuming the AP means "her handlers at Disney are milking this thing until the kids get distracted or Cyrus drops dead." And for all the hullabaloo about the Hannah Montana tour immediately selling out, purportedly earning Cyrus the highest-grossing-tour for 2007 in the scalpers "secondary" market, Cyrus is currently in sixth place when it comes to U.S. ticket sales—behind a bunch of crusty oldsters.
Cyrus' tour ranks as the sixth top North American concert tour this week, behind Genesis, Bruce Springsteen, Van Halen, Dave Matthews Band and the Mexican rock band Mana, according to the trade publication Pollstar.
She's getting lapped by DMB! No wonder Disney is turning this tour into the never-ending Montana extravaganza. Forget Maura not letting me take my afternoon nap; if we're calling OSHA for anyone, it should probably be Miley.

She's not blowing a kiss, she's asking for more trucker speed.
I can't believe you guys ever thought she'd top any of the big boomer bands and reunion tours, older artists are always going to rule at least that roost in the music industry.
Well, considering neither Genesis or Dave Matthews Band are currently on tour, I would assume the figures that AP quoted from Pollstar are either flat wrong, or the year to date tally.
@GovernmentNames: we did?
@jessdolator: Your Mike Rutherford crack got me curious enough to check on the other Mechanics ( via Wikipedia, naturally). A couple of them have also been getting money in the past few years on the reunion tour circuit: Tim Renwick backed Pink Floyd at Live 8, and Jamie Moses toured with Queen + Paul Rodgers. Meanwhile, Gary Wallis is the current musical director of Il Divo (before whom he directed Girls Aloud). These folks know where the money is in today's market.
@Figgsrock: Pollstar's current Top 50 has Miley Cyrus at 15 (behind Arcade Fire!) but it's ranked in order of Power Index, which might just be "website hits" since Rage Against the Machine is #12 on the strength of a New Zealand-Australia-Japan tour in January and February.
Can we just tie today's headlines in and say "Mike 'Beats' Miley To Death"?
i had an uncomfortable realization today that mike and mechanics soundtracked many of my earliest emo moments. (emoments?)
emoments!
I heard that Genesis tour kicked ass.
I can't wait to see how *fast* the tix sell out with the Jonas Brothers NOT going along for the extension - LAME!. Aly & AJ are cute but their songs sound like KMart commercials. Or at least their Christmas song does.
@Moimeme: Jess and I are seeing the Jonas Brothers tomorrow!
I freely admit, that as the dad of a five-year-old, had this show been coming (back) to Atlanta I would have been hitting "refresh" on my browser at 10 am Saturday. Dodged a bullet there.
