Welcome to the latest installment of the Cover-Song Showcase Showdown, in which we present readers with a few covers of a well-known chestnut—and you let us know which version you like best.
Today's candidate for coverage is "I Heard It Through The Grapevine," the 1967 soul stirrer that Marvin Gaye took to the top of the charts. We've got three different versions of "Grapevine" for you to choose from, courtesy of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Kaiser Chiefs, and The Slits; be sure to give your computer some extra bandwidth when you download the CCR version, as it clocks in at around 11 minutes or so.

there has yet to be a version as deep and as ace bunny killer as the original, which, by the way, is by GLADYS KNIGHT AND THE PIPS.
Anyone that didn't vote CCR: grow up.
I was about to give props to Kaiser Chiefs for daring to cover such a classic and for the kooky instrumentation, but as the song played on, I realized that would be like giving props to an especial education kid for not setting his siter on fire accidentally.
D) None of the Above.
The correct answer is Roger Troutman (of Zapp), thankyouverymuch.
My vote is for The Crust Brothers.
The Slits version is not only the best here, but one of the best covers OF ALL TIMES. Also, where's the Zapp and Roger version?
I really can't believe the Slits didn't win.
Also: We've been keeping these to three nominees each--is that too few? We figured nobody would really want to listen to 16 versions of the same song back to back to back.
I love how Foggerty says 'I hoyd it through the grapevine. As far as the Slits cover, it's the best track they ever did so they don't deserve shit.

What?
No Zapp & Roger?

PS: The Slits version is awful. My ears...they bleed.
You know, Michael McDonald rocked his own version opening up for Steely Dan this summer, yet it does not make your list. Is there a reason for this besides the obvious?
I'm down with Kaiser's version, although, yes, Gladys' is the best.
