People, be warned: this is what happens when you have YouTube, a video-editing program, a lot of free time, and a near-obsessive drive to keep your favorite pop star's light shining brightly in the face of frozen-marg binge rumors. Although if nothing else, the "it was her shoe's fault!" defense should help this guy find at least a little comfort.

Wow. I can't believe I just watched that whole thing. Is it time to go home yet?
Naw, I am gonna stick with the schlitzed on margaritas for her lackluster appearance.
Back and to the left... Back and to the left... Back and to the left... Back and to the left... Back and to the left... Back and to the left... Back and to the left...
This video is the "Loose Change" of shitty pop music.
This is why the Internet was invented. Awesome.
Now, if only someone could create a tape explaining why everyone was so blown away with Chris Brown's terrible lyp-synching ability, decent (but not amazing) dance moves and pretty average jumping ability (for an 18-year-old). Please?
It's a conspiracy! Britney was framed! Okay, maybe not. The performance was incredibly poor because it was under-rehearsed, like most of the VMA's. Case closed. Even if her heel did break, it wouldn't have made a difference. She still would have been drunk.
a broken heel? really?
i've seen drag queens pull of entire routines, complete with aerial stunts and choreography far more involved than britney's "dancing," all with a broken heel.
nice try.
She broke her heel because she was drunk/high in first place. Case closed.
Who ever made that has never tried to walk around in heels after drinking. The boots don't look like they're made of anything sturdy enough to keep her ankles straight and when she stumbled the heel just slide to the side of her foot a little.
Women will know the sensation.
@oovy:
I too watched the whole thing and I now hate myself.
Why did I just watch that!?
An utterly fascinating, enthrulling waste of 4 minutes of my life.
That should be You Tube's motto.
Can we use "Zapruder" as a verb now? As in: "Britney Spears' performance gets Zaprudered."
@Laurrel: Yeppers. That's exactly what I was thinking when I watched this. It's not broken, it's just incredibly bad shoe architecture. Obvs, someone should have put her in better shoes -- but to be fair, I think the stage was pretty slippery in general, because other ladies looked positively pained -- did you see Jennifer Hudson's ankles wobbling? -- and almost everyone who came down the little side stairs needed a spotter (Jennifer Garner in particular, I believe, looked like she nearly bit it getting on stage).
Sadly, as the boot in question was being escorted back to its closet by MTV staffers it was shot by a local nightclub owner, thus depriving us of the boot's own official statement of events.
