Lately, our thoughts have been turning to David Bowie. And when our thoughts turn to David Bowie, we naturally think back to our very first David Bowie memory: the 1986 Jim Henson movie Labyrinth, in which Bowie played Jareth the Goblin King. For years, we didn't know Bowie was famous for anything besides acting alongside puppets, saying creepy things to a smoking-hot Jennifer Connelly, and chilling in his cool Escher castle, because our first Bowie song and music video was "Magic Dance," which spoiled us for life in terms of other music videos — because after you've seen a dude in tight gray riding pants and blonde Elvira hair kick a Muppet and throw a baby, it's all downhill from there.

Here here! Ahhh this movie was my first memory..and he was my first crush. Which prolly scared the 'rents.
He has a great line in that movie where he says, "Nothing? Nothing, tra la la?"
Kills me every time.
Can't wait to see his turn as Nikola Tesla.
"YOU HAVE NO POWER OVER ME!" -- Must be said with a completely straight face in a scenery-chewing fashion. Seriously.
Endlessly quotable, this film.
"It is SO stimulating being your HAT!"
.....My first awareness of Bowie was college radio and "Graun cuntrul ta mayjah Tum..." That, and letting SRV go crazy on "Let's Dance."
Nobody rocked the Tina Turner frightwig quite like the Thin White Duke.
Labryinth era Bowie is the best kind of Bowie. Except when I first saw him on the front of the video-cassette case at MegaVideo I totally thought he was a woman.
Close second to this clip are the Fierys. "Hey lady! What you doin' goin' around with a head like that?"
I just got to watch a clip of Labyrnth at work! You've made my week, as far as I'm concerned. Next week: As The World Falls Down, because sadly enough, it's still my one and only favorite movie.
The best way to experience this song is to drunkenly dance in cirlces to the chorus, arm in arm with a friend. Its a communion of sorts.
