Demonoid Welcomes BitTerrorist Hordes Back Into Its Adorably Decorated Fold

After quietly bringing its tracker back online in February, dormant BitTorrent tracker Demonoid appears to be back in business: A tipster forwarded along an automated e-mail he received from the site today: "We are pleased to inform you that Demonoid.com is finally back online... Your account is back and ready to be used again. If you have
problems accessing it, please use the forgotten password page." And going to the site reveals that there's been a change in adminship: More »

Demonoid Raises Its Cute Little Head Once Again

The BitTorrent tracker Demonoid, which went offline in November after threats from the Canadian Recording Industry Association threatened to deplete its resources, appears to be back online—sort of. While the Web site, which is hosted in the U.S., doesn't yet have links to it up, the long-dormant tracker is responding to requests—and hosted in Malaysia, according to TorrentFreak. The exclamation points and googly-eyed smiley faces popping up on the "no filesharing discussions allowed (except in extreme cases, I guess)" Demonoid boards would further bear out the news that the tracker is back in some form. Another BitTorrent Site With A Cute Icon Bites The E-Dust

The Canada-based BitTorrent tracker Demonoid, which has been a target of the Canadian Recording Industry Association for a few months now, has apparently decided to give up the fight. The site's front page now simply reads "The CRIA threatened the company renting the servers to us, and because of this it is not possible to keep the site online. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding." More »

An update on the Demonoid downtime from an Idolator reader who ventured into the site's official IRC channel: "The mods in the official #demonoid irc room (yes, I still rock the irc) have stated that this is a hardware issue. They have repeated time and time again that Demonoid has NOT been shut down by anyone." There are also other reports of the downtime being a result of hardware failure. [Earlier]

Demonoid Latest Target In Recording Industry's Endless Game Of Whack-A-Mole

Popular BitTorrent tracker Demonoid has been offline for about 24 hours now, apparently because of action taken by the Canadian Recording Industry Association against the site, which is currently the second-most-popular tracker (the litigious Pirate Bay is No. 1). Demonoid's servers are currently located in Canada, which was thought to be a "safe haven" for their operations; they moved there from the Netherlands earlier this year, after action was threatened against the site and its administrators by the Dutch antipiracy outfit BREIN. According to TorrentFreak.com, the CRIA isn't commenting on the situation.
