Your account is back and ready to be used again. If you have
problems accessing it, please use the forgotten password page." And going to the site reveals that there's been a change in adminship:

A few months ago, the site administrator (known as Deimos), lacked the time necessary to maintain this website. And for personal reasons, Deimos decided to resign his position as a member of the site staff.

Before leaving, Deimos picked a new site administrator from among his friends. The old moderator team remained unchanged and will continue helping with the site. The Demoniod team will try to keep everything running just as it always has been.

The trackers and website seem to be working properly, and should any issues arise, they will be taken care of as soon as possible. If we work on any problems over the next few days, the site might be going on and offline. We apologize in advance if this should happen.

"Personal issues" being code for "getting really sick and tired of fielding e-mails from the Canadian Recording Industry Association," obviously.

<![CDATA[Demonoid Raises Its Cute Little Head Once Again]]> demonoid.JPGThe BitTorrent tracker Demonoid, which went offline in November after threats from the Canadian Recording Industry Association threatened to deplete its resources, appears to be back online—sort of. While the Web site, which is hosted in the U.S., doesn't yet have links to it up, the long-dormant tracker is responding to requests—and hosted in Malaysia, according to TorrentFreak. The exclamation points and googly-eyed smiley faces popping up on the "no filesharing discussions allowed (except in extreme cases, I guess)" Demonoid boards would further bear out the news that the tracker is back in some form. <![CDATA[Another BitTorrent Site With A Cute Icon Bites The E-Dust]]> demonoid.JPGThe Canada-based BitTorrent tracker Demonoid, which has been a target of the Canadian Recording Industry Association for a few months now, has apparently decided to give up the fight. The site's front page now simply reads "The CRIA threatened the company renting the servers to us, and because of this it is not possible to keep the site online. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding."

Demonoid moved its hosting company from the Netherlands to Canada in the summer because of the Great White North's slightly more lax copyright-infringement laws. But that didn't stop the CRIA from getting into a snit, and the organization pressured it into temporarily shutting down. Upon its return, it blocked Canadian users from the site, but this apparently didn't placate the recording industry, which decided to go the tried-and-true "threaten the hosting company into losing lots of money" tactic that's shut controversial Web sites of all kinds down through the years. Anyway, if the post-OiNK landscape is any indication, about 10 "new Demonoids" will be up and running within a week, and they'll all somehow manage to have even more irritating userbases. Hooray!

They have repeated time and time again that Demonoid has NOT been shut down by anyone." There are also other reports of the downtime being a result of hardware failure. [Earlier]

<![CDATA[Demonoid Latest Target In Recording Industry's Endless Game Of Whack-A-Mole]]> demonoid.jpgPopular BitTorrent tracker Demonoid has been offline for about 24 hours now, apparently because of action taken by the Canadian Recording Industry Association against the site, which is currently the second-most-popular tracker (the litigious Pirate Bay is No. 1). Demonoid's servers are currently located in Canada, which was thought to be a "safe haven" for their operations; they moved there from the Netherlands earlier this year, after action was threatened against the site and its administrators by the Dutch antipiracy outfit BREIN. According to TorrentFreak.com, the CRIA isn't commenting on the situation.
