Billy Joel And Elton John To Tour Together As Long As They're Still Standing

In news that will send many an ex-drama club member's heart a-flutter, Elton John announced on The View this morning that his world tour with fellow ivory-tinkler Billy Joel, which begins in March, will last for "at least" two years. Think of it as a recession special: "It’s two people for the price of one," Sir Elton told ABC's class in chattering. "Our ticket prices are the same as you’d see anyone else, but there’s two of us. In this day and age, we hope to be getting people value for their money." Now that is a message that anyone can get behind! After the jump, a few Joel/John collaborations from years past. (Hey, I got over denying my roots this summer, you know?) More »

So Much For Her Assertion That There Were No Hard Feelings In the wake of their on-stage spat at the British GQ Awards last week, Elton John has announced that rumors of any future collaborations with his sparring partner Lily Allen should be put to bed: "I was thinking about asking her to tour with me and maybe even do a duet... Obviously that won't be happening now," he told the Daily Star. No word from Lily's blog about how she feels about this reversal of fortune, perhaps because she's too busy worrying about the end of the world. [Now Magazine]

Lily Allen Is Mad That No One Got The Joke

The pint-sized singer responds to the flap over her Wednesday-night tiff with Elton John on her blog, saying that it was all just a big joke and even though she may have been drunk, it wasn't like Sir Elton was mad or anything: "I'm not defending my drunkeness because i don't need to, i'm 23 it was an awards ceremony i drank the free champagne, how awful of me. Trying to create a feud on the other hand, and trying to make me out as being some rude little girl with a drink problem is just unfair, Elton and I exchanged jokes and there were no hard feelings at all, infact neither of us gave it a second thought. It's sad that an evening enjoyed by all had to ruined by some bitter journos again...." More »

Elton John And Lily Allen Have Bitchiest Awards-Show Snipefest Since Milton Berle And RuPaul

Elton John's assertion that he could snort British burbler Lily Allen under the table, and his half-bored disgust at her unwillingness to stop sucking from the free-champagne teat and plastered protests over his advanced age, make me pretty sure that the argument they had at British GQ's Men Of The Year Awards isn't some sort of viral marketing plan for their forthcoming collaboration, "Wednesday Nights Are Pretty OK For Fighting As Well '09." Then again, I'm talking about both of them thanks to this little spat, so who knows? [via Gawker]

Once moderately famous rock musician Noel Gallagher (purportedly) suffered the z-list indignity of botching multiple attempts to charm his way into various Oscar parties on Sunday night. Yeah, it has been years and years since Oasis' last U.S. hit, but it has to gall poor Noel that they let Courtney Love into Elton John's soiree. [Gigwise]

Elton John Brings Feathers Back To His Wardrobe

Recently the Maori decided that Elton John should drop the staid black-suited look and get back to his flashy roots. Luckily, they had just the garment to help him get there: a handmade bird-feather cloak—the "equivalent to an Academy Award"—that they awarded to Sir Elton in honor of his "loyal continuance to return to Aotearoa to entertain." Authorities in Gateshead, England have determined that a photograph owned by Elton John that was previously thought to be indecent is not, in fact, child pornography, and is appropriate for display. From an official at the Crown Prosecution Service: "Even if the photograph was now considered to be indecent, a defendant would be able to raise a legitimate defence, given that the photograph was distributed for the purposes of display in a contemporary art gallery after having been deemed not to be indecent by the earlier investigation." Earlier investigation? Of the same piece of art? Sounds like the Crown Prosecution Service has been having a slow couple of years. [Reuters]

CBS and Conde Nast, in an effort to meet their "one Elton John-fellating TV special per year" quota before the clock runs out on 2007, are teaming up for the creatively titled special Movies Rock, during which John will "honor music from animated movies." Also on the bill for the show, which airs in December: Beyonce singing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow," Carrie Underwood running through the hills on "The Sound Of Music," and a Fergalicious tribute to James Bond movies. Yes, really. [Variety]

Elton John: To Catch A Guy In A Giant Duck Costume And Oversized Sunglasses?

A characteristically understated NME is claiming that Captain Fantastic "has become embroiled in a child pornography investigation" thanks to a fine art photo by Nan Goldin which he had lent to a gallery exhibition in the U.K. From the NME: "A statement on Elton John's website states, 'Klara and Edda belly-dancing' by Nan Goldin was seized by police from Gateshead's Baltic Centre on September 20." But unless I've gone blind and/or I'm still delirious from the hip-hop hearings live-blog yesterday, I can't seem to find any mention of it on said official Web site, though the NME claims the photo is "still being assessed by Northumbria Police," mention of which I also can't find on John's site. In the interim, several other reputable sources have come forward with slightly differing versions of the story, while the AP has also named John the owner of the photo. I still like the NME's classy headline the best, though.

Elton John In 'Porn Probe' [NME]

Neologism alert: "We're pleased at CDM to introduce a new verb: to Elton John will hereby mean to unplug from the Web in order to do creative work. No blogging, emergency emails only (heck, ignoring the emergency emails will be even more satisfying), no RSS, etc. In all seriousness, it's a great idea." Oh, dude, we are so with you on that last point. [Create Digital Music]

goodbye, yellow brick information superhighway

Elton John Wants Everyone To Get Off The Internet

In a half-third-person, half-first-person screed that was no doubt Telexed to the UK tabloid The Sun, Elton John has made his stance on the Internet clear: He thinks it needs to be shut down now, before any more crappy made-at-home records get foisted on the public. And that people—including, probably, us—need to quit blogging and march in the streets for ... something. We're not entirely sure what. Maybe the fact that there's "too much technology"? Or maybe better albums, since he's claiming that in the '70s there were "at least ten albums released every week that were fantastic"? Actually, perhaps he just wants better drugs, so he'll at least think that there are that many good albums coming out every week. More »

Objects Of Affection: Idolator's Tribute-Video Treasury

Ed. note: It's no secret that we're big lovers of YouTube "tribute" clips—those fan-made videos in which users create musical homages to their favorite pop-culture properties. The only problem is that 3/4 of these mini-movies revolve around Star Wars, the Harry Potter films or Gilmore Girls, usually all at once. So from now on, Idolator intern Kate Richardson will be scouring the video sites, looking for the most unlikely objects of affection. In this entry, she journeys into the wild, wild world of Steve Irwin videos:

Elton John: We Think It's Gonna Be A Long, Long Time Before We Respect Him Again

If you have any love in your heart for Elton John, then by all means, do not watch this horrid Access Hollywood clip from last night, in which Sir Reg is browbeaten into making some sort of positive comment on the life of Anna Nicole Smith. Why? Because she was like Marilyn, and Elton loved Marilyn, and wouldn't it be great if for our vulturistic viewers if Elton were to bust out a little "Candle In The Wind" in her honor right now? John strains to keep his repulsion in check, but you have to wonder why he even agreed to sit down with these spumes in the first place. More »
