For much of the mid-to-late '90s, rappers Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown were mercilessly pitted against each other by the media, their rap talents demeaned by such side-by-side comparisons as "Which one's got the best rhyming skills?" or "Which one's hotter?" (The answer to both questions: Kelis). But considering that neither of them have been exactly been burning up the charts as of late, it was surprising to find both women making front-page news of the Post this weekend. Saturday's edition found Brown being accused of stealing two belts from a Greenwich Village boutique, and Sunday's paper noted Kim's impending plagiarism battle with "hip-hopping mad" reggae singer Tanya Stephens.
We'll let you decide for yourself whether either story warrants screaming-headline treatment; the allegations that Kim lifted lyrics from Stephens have a soon-to-be-settled-out-of-court feel, while the store owner crowing about Brown's $400 theft seems particularly press-needy. That said, Brown's in-store meltdown couldn't have come at a worse time: She missed a New Jersey hearing on Wednesday for charges that she made "terroristic threats" against her former personal assistant, and today she goes to court for allegedly roughing up a manicurist last summer (don't be f—kin' with Foxy's paraffin treatments!) At least her belt-binge was caught on tape, making it the first time in five years that anyone's watched one of her videos.
