Offering irrefutable proof that nothing good can come from MTV at this point, Mastodon's Brent Hinds is currently in the hospital thanks to extensive head trauma that occured some time after the Video Music Awards on Sunday night:
"MASTODON guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds suffered a severe head injury after his performance on Sunday night's [September 9] MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas. He is being treated by a Las Vegas hospital where he remains hospitalized."
It is rumored that Hinds' injury was sustained during a brutal assault that took place shortly after MASTODON performed "Colony of Birchmen" at the Palms Casino Fantasy Suites in Las Vegas. However, it should be noted that this information has not yet been corroborated by an official source.
Meanwhile Brandon Urie and Boys Like Girls are still walking around. Jesus, that's nice and vaguely ominous isn't it? "A brutal assault." Whatever the cause turns out to be, I hope Mr. Hinds is on the mend soon. And for chrissakes everyone, stay away from MTV from now on.

Brent Hinds and Josh Hommmes were the only musicians I immediately recognized from my brief forey into the VMA horror show on TV. I was so excited that Mastadon was there, to bring the pain to the VMA's, but I never in my right mind would have thought the pain would be brought to them. I am seriously angry about this. I do not condone violence, but to think that some who walking prick like Kanye or Wentz can walk around like the fucking cock of the walk with nary a scratch, and the biggest injury sustained is from Mastadon... MTV, ye be the curse! Sink into hell!

OK, sucks that he got beat down and I hope he pulls through, but given that it's this band and the words "BRUTAL assault" were used, all I can think of is how this would make the best episode of Metalocalypse, like, ever.
damn, I really love Mastodon... Sad news. I hope it was just a random attack rather than a premeditated one, just because it sucks when people do shit like this on purpose.
