Sure, the Sugababes have basically evolved into "Keisha Buchanan and whatever two young ladies are willing to put up with her for the course of an album's promotion," and the tinge of gloom that made their debut one of my favorite albums of the last 10 years has been pretty much scrubbed clean since the departure of Siobhan Donaghy (about whom more later). And the stink of that "Walk This Way" cover from a year ago means that they're still on probation in my book. But the girls can still crank out an irresistible pop confection now and again, as "About You Now" proved. I was lukewarm on the Dr. Luke/Cathy Dennis-penned track at first because of its overwhelming resemblance to another Internet music sensation of the early '00s, but hearing it come up on shuffle now and again (and watching its adorable video) made me slowly realize that there are certain formulas—i.e. electro-flanged guitar combined with girl-pop vocalists—that always sound good to my ears. So good, in fact, that I am probably going to listen to this song about seven or eight more times over the course of the next half hour.
