It's great that Mya wants to sing a song in honor of people, like her mom, who have survived breast cancer. It's even understandable that the song is a gloppy, Kara DioGuardi-penned ballad. But calling the song "My Bra"—and sprinkling the lyrics with such metaphors as "When it's just too hard to make it / Through another day / You're lifting me up / My bra my bra my bra"—just seems like a really, really bad idea, especially when one realizes that a lot of bras out there advertise their ability to not only lift, but separate. How weird -- I was just thinking of mailing you guys to note that today is Mya's 29th birthday, and making some lame joke about her label giving her a "birthday gift" in the form of a release date for, ahem, Liberation.
Since her album was shelved, at least someone can profit from her work. Except her, that is... Poor Mya...
so you guys, there's this thing, i don't know if you've heard of it. it's called breast cancer. yeah, i had never heard of it either, even though it totally affects like women everywhere! but then the other day i was like 'hey, how come sun chips come in a pink bag now? and how come state house in my home state is suddenly festooned with pink lights? and why is mya singing a song written by the crappy lady that did that crappy album with dave stewart that one of my coworkers just totally loved the shit out of when it came out?' AND NOW I KNOW!
I cannot wait for Ja Rule's testicular cancer awareness response song lauding his crew for acting as his "cup."
