From the looks of this Venn diagram, the people at New York know an awful lot of rock critics. (Maybe this is a hint as to why those critics' writings aren't in the magazine that often...) [Vulture]

  • What was that Lester Bangs quote about having "the courage to be drunken buffoons"? I mean, I think he was talking about the Guess Who, but...rock critic, look in the mirror, etc.

  • And they say nobody remembers New Math. However, as I am rock critic who has long stretches of quasi-teetotalery, and who loves rubbing people's faces in it (like right now!), I'd prefer a more accurate diagram expressing these eternal truths: "All writers are smuggos; all rock critics are smuggos; some rock critics are writers; not all writers are rock critics; most writers are drunks; and most rock critics are drunks."
