The new Miles Davis iPod: You know it's working when it turns its back to the audience and starts cursing.
(Also: Can they figure out a slightly less phallic way to photograph this thing? Or is it just us?)

Hang on - that's a Shuffle, right? An OLD style, crappy Shuffle. Either this story is out of date, or Apple are taking advantage of jazz fans to palm them off with obsolete goods (a bit like they did with improvisation, come to think of it: "Oh yeah, it still counts as proper music when they just make it up as they go along. Sure it does…")
I think it's new; it's being advertised on the NYTimes web site today.
the way you can't control the song order reflects that improvisational spirit!
.....Back when I was a kid, it wasn't proper rock and roll if it was at all premeditated. It had to sound improvised, even if it wasn't. Admiting that you had worked out a guitar solo in advance was about the un-coolest thing you could say!
its even got a shuffle your cocaine option.
