Soldier In Iraq Tries To Win Hearts, Minds With Happy Flowers

oof.gifHead on over to WFMU's Beware Of The Blog for a description of how a U.S. soldier stationed in Iraq used the childhood-trauma duo Happy Flowers as "audio interrogation aids." No jokes here; we're still trying to wrap our heads around the whole thing, in large part because we gave the Flowers' tantrummy "I Said I Wanna Watch Cartoons" a spin after we read the post. (Be sure to download it before you go.)

  • I've always loved the Happy Flowers! Who else would capture childhood trauma so well... through actual musical tantrums. The track "Charlie Got A Haircut" is one of their funniest.

That's one of my favorite all-time album covers, as well!

  • that being said, I'm sure Jon Ronson would have a field day with this news

  • When I worked in a tiny indie record store, I saw a guy outside the store WATCH ME turn the "open" sign to "close," then come in the door before I could get there to lock it. And then wanted to browse. Jerk. He was looking at some crappy MOR stuff, so I treated the idiot to a heapin' helpin' of Happy Flowers during his stay in my store.

    He bought the damned album.

    Go figure.

  • My co-worker, Rob, who listened to "Cartoons" with me said, "does this band have a fan base? Beacause I would be a little worried about who they are."
