Today, Apple introduced the "Complete My Album" option on the iTunes store, where shoppers who have purchased any tracks off an album are given a 99-cent-per-song credit should they decide to buy the whole thing. Whether or not this will light a fire underneath consumers to buy albums—which have been getting a ton of bad press lately—is uncertain, but we know one thing: Somewhere, the members of D4L are shaking their collective fist at this news, knowing that their anemic album sales could have been propped up by the dozens if this innovation had only come a year and a half earlier.

Hahaha--actually, I bought "Fazer" a while back, but anyone who bought individual MP3s in the past has three months to get on the album bandwagon. (My second choice for illustrating this post: Philip Bailey's Chinese Wall.)

I received this notice from iTunes today, and at first I was excited because I thought it meant I could complete the album for ANY tracks I already owned, by surreptitious means or otherwise. Sweet, I thought, I can download the remaining tracks from the upcoming NIN album for about 4 bucks!
No dice. It only applies to individual tracks you've purchased from iTunes. Sigh.
Slip's definitely worth having all of. As is the "Dine Alone" single or EP or whatever, which is where the cover of "How Soon Is Now?" comes from. Ace.
