Hm, THE Twilight Singers are at 141, but would've been tied at 121 had the vote for Twilight Singers (san "The") at 992 been counted.

I also noticed Guillemots at 117, but losing points because someone submitted their album title as plural -- "Through the Windowpanes, which clocked in at 1090.

Someone's got to figure out a way to work out the bugs.

If you think it's buggy now you should've seen it before I re-tallied everything. "My Love" was voted for ten different ways. But any other notices of this sort are very appreciated--thanks.

I guess the "Williamsburg Radiohead" thing is pretty accurate since there is an apt comparison there: both groups are massively overrated. That's where it ends though, because Radiohead does have quite a bit of musical merit.

I have forced myself to listen to this "Wolf like me" track multiple times, TRYING to find something about it to like- I am listening to it again now. But i can't. Musically, there's just nothing there. Boring, unmelodic, poorly produced, annoying vocals, lame lyrics. Sorry- this is not a great, good, or even decent track.

Here's a link to Au Revoir, Simone. They're from Brooklyn, too, although I'm sure they're only one of dozens of groups in Brooklyn better then TV on the Radio. They had an album out last year. Somehow they didn't get one vote.

Why has The Rapture's album done so poorly on the end-of-year polls? I thought Pieces was fantastic.

Sorry I'm, like, the 85th commenter to pile on here, but CONGRATS! to all on a job well done. The essays in particular are excellent and - no offense to the beloved Christgau - a good deal less dense than the old Voice steez.

I'd say collecting roughly one-third of the Pazz & Jop pool on your first try is mighty impressive. And I see a good number of boldface names on that list. Next year, we'll blindfold Sanneh and Sheffield, throw 'em into the back of a van and make 'em vote, too.

Holy Christ, do you get some sort of reward for making it through that Matos essay? Thing is a goddamn novella.

Audif Jackson Winters III has obviously never read a vintage Christgau essay from the glory years of Pazz & Jop. Matos's piece is a pamphlet by comparison to one of The Dean's tomes.

Interesting stuff! Getting to look at the results by demographic is more interesting to me than most of the rest of the stuff. That the over-40s went for Dylan while everyone else went for Cookie Mountain is, maybe, telling.

The one of the essays I've read so far has been good too. I'll have to take a look at the others later.

I'm also mildly confused by the lack of recognition for The Rapture's latest, which I think is head-and-shoulders better than their first album. But at the same time, when I listen to it, I tend to not go too much farther than WAYUH. After that track, I tend to switch to something else, rather than listening to it all the way through.

As a TVOTR partisan, I've been pleased by the reception to what for me was damn near record of the year when it was just a shitty leak.

There's also a bunch of stuff present on the list that I've not heard (yet?). Which means it's time for more record shopping/downloading! Yay!

A very fun poll. I just wish that Matos would've used my first name one of the two times he mentioned me in his essay.(I'm not saying he should've *just* called me by my first name. It's just that, you know, the journalistic convention of reverting to last-name-only on second reference does have a certain logic to it. Last-name-only on first reference is kind of weird. Not that I'm really complaining. I'm just narcisstic enough to wonder if there was an earlier reference that got edited out.) (Heck, even Matos himself gets a first name on the top of that essay! Usually even HE pretends he doesn't have one.)

(And I had no idea til I read his essay that Destroyer are considered "trad." Also, I swear I never even heard of Peter, Bjorn & John or Justice or Rhythm & Sound or Midlake before today. I'm pretty sure I heard of Camera Obscura before, but I had no idea that anybody liked them.) (And, oh yeah, the biggest surprise to me in the album finishers is Belle & Sebastian at #10. I have nothing more against them than I ever did, but I kinda figured even their fans didn't care about them anymore.)

Agreed: Eddy's ballot is the highlight of all the comments I've read so far. Especially this part: "Another really good year, despite everything that stunk about it (some of which even involves me and critics' polls and stuff). Someday I'll probably write about all that with the detail it deserves."

I was really surprised that Belle & Sebastian placed so highly -- it was #2 on my ballot, but I was also fairly convinced that most people were sleeping on that record even though it is, by far, the best album of their career.

One additional comment, while I'm here: It's a shame that Tom Waits-Orphans ranked lower than it might have, due to having its votes split between "Reissue" (#21) and "Album" (#25). I guess there was no way around this problem, beyond Idolator making a strong editorial decision about how to classify the set, and then writing back to everyone who voted the "wrong" way and asking for a revised ballot.

I'm inclined to put it in the reissue category, myself. Though it's obviously a "compilation" more than a reissue.

there were a few things like that--LCD Soundsystem, Villalobos, Waits--where the vote was split. partly I'm kind of into not making sharp delineations along those lines--let the people decide!--but on the other I will have to do so next year just out of fairness.

While I could probably find crazier if I looked harder, I searched for
Paris Hilton's PARIS, fully figuring Chuck Eddy for the lonely vote, but
no, 5 people agreed with Chuck Eddy. Paris finished at #119, 72 points,
beating out six of my own ten picks, not to mention Solomon Burke, Prince,
Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Sufjan Stevens, the Melvins, the Flaming Lips, the
Beatles, Jerry Lee Lewis, Morrissey, and I could go on.
