It's not quite up there with his take on Barbra Streisand's "Evergreen," but John McCain's stunning cover version of the Beach Boys' "Barbara Ann"—in which he changes the chorus to "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran"—could prove to be the most notable single of McCain's career. All he needs now is John Stamos on backing bongos and an equally killer b-side ("Help Me Tehranda"?), and even Mike and Brian would settle their differences to help out with the backing melody.

Actually, "Barbara Ann" is a song that the Beach Boys covered. I forget the name of the act that first recorded it.
It was The Regents that the original.
Back in 1979, the last time the US was talking about attacking Iran (y'know, when Reagan was sending weapons to Saddam Hussein before subsidizing the Taliban in Afghanistan before illegally selling arms to Iran so that the US could overthrow the Nicaraguan government), some doofus came up with the identical song parody. McCain's shout out to '70's novelty songs may mark his switch from "neocon" to "retrocon" (If it had been a New Wave cover, would he invoke the "electroclash of civilizations")?
The Regents. And Dean from Jan and Dean sang lead with B-Wilse on the Beach Boys version.
FYI The Regents version is sort of a letdown.
Whoops, Cassiel beat me to it. And I was all set to claim my nerd crown.
When can we get this guy and MC Rove together? I smell a mash-up on the way...
What about his cover of "I'm fucking full of shit and have no integrity? By the way do you want to accompany me and my kevlar vest and army unit of protection plus helicopters around Baghdad because it is so safe over there?"
I love that song.
@Cassiel: The 1980 cover was "Bomb Iran" by Vince Vance and the Valiants. I'm scared that I remembered the band immediately when reading the main article. I then was even more frightened to learn that Vince is still performing and has a beehive, allegedly his own hair, that outdoes Marge Simpson.
And for those considering the glamourous exciting life of a Valiantette, please note that single mothers with custody need not apply.
fitting that he's getting into music.
McCain is the Kid Rock of American politics: he desperately cultivates the image of a rebellious outsider, while his real nature remains a worthless, cowardly conformist.
