It's kind of strange this New York Times story on the YouTube semi-popularity of "Iran So Far," the love song to Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that aired on last week's Saturday Night Live, didn't mention the fact that NBC had to pull the clip from its YouTube channel—and its site—because of an unauthorized Aphex Twin sample, isn't it? • Aphex Twin's label issued a statement that NBC would have to license the sample in order to rebroadcast but the initial 'ephemeral' broadcast was OK.

It's especially silly because the sample came from Aphex Twin's Drukqs album, which was padded out with a bunch of Satie pastiche acoustic piano tracks to help Richard James get out of his contract with Warp. So it's a pisstake that samples a pisstake.

  • Slow news week for the Times it seems.
