Label Employees Irked That Bloggers Aren't Doing Their Jobs For Them

jpg1970.jpg Hits Daily Double is the Pravda of the major-label world — it gleefully pumps out disinformation about artists and execs, and repackages press releases as "news" after adding a poorly-punned headline and a timestamp. (Plus, it has a penchant for really unfunny Flash animations that make startling sounds. On loop.) But despite its house-organ status, or maybe because of it, Hits is an incredibly useful tool for gauging major-label reactions to phenomena that happen outside of their comfort zones. This week, artists and repertoire reps — the people entrusted with finding the biggest labels' rising stars are annoyed by the fact that not every bit of blog buzz translates into platinum sales and sold-out shows.

A taste of their whine, after the jump.

... the gripe we're hearing is that a blog band of the month may end up packing the Mercury Lounge on their third show ever, but a few months later, after all the bloggery has gone away, they can barely fill half the room. In other words, as one senior label rep put it, blog hype for a band tends to create an artificial following.

Don't they mean "a one-hit wonder"? Because we're pretty sure that whoever foisted Daniel Powter onto the earth is guilty of the same exact crime, with the added infraction of that stupid hat the dude's constantly wearing.
