In what can only be seen as an attempt to make the entire Internet stop focusing on Amy Winehouse's travails and start bickering over her again, Lily Allen has taken it upon herself to record a cover of ELO's "Mr. Blue Sky." For a cell phone commercial. A French cell phone commercial. To the comment section, everybody! [New Music Now]

Guess there's no stopping the ELO revival. I was chagrined when ELO's "Showdown" -- historically inappropriate in musical style -- underscored a key scene in Paul Thomas Anderson's new film "There Will Be Blood." What is it with that guy and ELO?! [Spoiler alert: Jeff Lynne cameos as the dastardly villain who destroys Pop Music. OK, that part is accurate.]
This piece of insufferable treacle is not actually terrible at all!
Conflicted, obvs.
@Luke N Atmaguchi:
I think I read somewhere that the "frogs falling" scene in Magnolia was actually supposed to be soundtracked to THAT snare sound.
i like it. it's not as good as when the delgados did it, but it's good. better than when she sang don't get me wrong, anyway.
@Luke N Atmaguchi: I hear in the sequel, There Will Be Blood 2: Even Bloodier, dastardly Lynne returns as the evil bastard who takes a pretty good John Lennon outtake, throws badly gated drums on it, puts his pal George Harrison's guitars way too high in the mix and essentially destroys a reunion of the greatest rock group of all time.
Or...wait, maybe that was the prequel...
But ... I don't hate it! Oh noes!
Lilly Allen sounds just like Jeff Lynne. Seriously.
