It's been a while since our last edition of "Listen Without Prejudice," our semi-regular feature spotlighting non-English speak bands with whom we've become obsessed—despite not having the damndest clue what they're singing about. This week's entry features a concert clip from The Blue Hearts, a Japanese power-pop band who we first heard a few years ago at New York City's Village Karaoke (R.I.P.). We have no idea how recently this performance went off, but the song—an astoundingly catchy song that we're assuming is called "Linda Linda"—has been a hit in Japan for years. If you guys go for this, be warned: We can go a bit crazy with the Japanese rock.

The outro totally makes that song. It's good in a "I could see this in a Japanese version of Benny and Joon" kinda way.
They make me miss the Libertines!
The Blue Hearts are Legend.
Listen to the High-Lows and CRO-MAGNONS!
If living in Japan for eight months taught me anything, it's that Americans don't, and never did, know how to do pop-punk right. Japanese pop-punk is amazing and I'm pretty sure that it all started with the Blue Hearts. It took me a while to realize that pop-punk was actually what bands like Going Steady and the Gingnan Boyz were playing because I was so used to hating it. On a side note, I think everyone first heard the Blue Hearts in a karaoke bar.
