The majority of articles about the Live Earth rock extravaganza fell into two categories: "OK, but a little boring" or "Hey, Madonna was there, and some other stuff!". But we were wondering: After all the Rio organizers went through to save their concert, which had the largest crowd of all the Live Earth venues, where is the Xuxa coverage we, as media consumers, demand?
Kudos to the two media outlets bold enough to take on the real news item of the day: How awesome was Xuxa?
Billed as "Europe's Online Newspaper," Jurnalo.com had this to say:
Brazilian actress, singer and children's show presenter Xuxa opened the show on the world-famous Copacabana Beach.
"We are all guilty," Xuxa, 44, told the crowd. "We waste paper, water, energy and many other things. . It is not just for Americans. This is a concert for the whole world. "
Xuxa came on stage in style, over a bridge that linked it to the hotel Copacabana Palace.
And Harp's Fred Mills, in an article surrounded by various non-Xuxa related observations, wrote:
Latin superstar Xuxa, doing "the wave" with the masses in Rio de Janeiro, while her posse of pretty boys flanked her and twirled big white and yellow flags? Check. (This particular segment, while undeniably cheesy, actually conjured up memories of U2's Bono back when he was prone to strut around the stages of benefit concerts waving his big white "this is not a rebel flag!" banner. So I now have a weird kind of fascination with Xuxa.)
Don't worry, Fred—a fascination with Xuxa is perfectly normal. Did we mention she's Brazil's best-selling music star of all time? I mean, there were giant inflatable bears! And people in monkey costumes! Linkin Park just had a bunch of sweaty angsty guys on stage. Is that supposed to be entertainment?
As a public service (and while they're still available), here is Xuxa's performance as captured on YouTube, in two parts:
Largest Live Earth show for hundreds of thousands in Rio [Juranlo]
Live Earth Sizzles and Fizzles [Harp]

Comments
I'd like to see Xuxa's assorted monkeys, bears, and unicorns battle with the Pepto Bismol lumberjack, dinosaur, and robot dancers.
Live Earth gave us www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJchUEz9IgE
I am prepared to call it a success based on that video alone.
I cannot react coherently to this.
Ok. Even if you do not let me become a commenter, could you please JUST for the sake of THIS comment?
True Story:
When I was 9 yrs old I lived between Argentina and the US and was OBSESSED with Xuxa. I would cry, freak out, and dance all at the same time when I watched her show and wanted desperatley to be one of her dancers (they are called "paquitas", the girls in the slutty majorette outfits)..anyways, I wrote her this letter saying that although I wanted to be one of her dancers, it was ok because we were under the same moon and she would always be in my heart and the love she has for the world and children made me cry and I loved her song "XU XU XU XA XA XA" 'cause it made me so happy and made me do my best dance moves, etc. I'm not lying about the "under the same moon part" either. I really said that. Anyways, shortly after sending my letter, I had to return to the US. One day my cousins called me all excited from Argentina and told me that Xuxa had read my letter over the air and had invited me to the show ON THE AIR! After the initial shock wore off, I cried and pleaded with my dad to please send me back to Argentina because if I could just dance for her, she would see, she needed me! He obviously said no and seeing this video today still makes me angry at my father.
