The Black Keys, the blues-rock/country-punk/hyphenated-something duo from Ohio, have agreed to let Danger Mouse ride the faders on their 2008 album. Well, he may have finally found a group (other than Sparklehorse) whose fidelity choices might fit the muted sketches and scribbles that he's now a beloved pop phenomenon for, but I bet the drums still sound like damp feathers slapping together. Meanwhile, the Killers were conveniently in the studio with Lou Reed at precisely the moment MTV came calling for an interview. Perhaps this means Lou will now grow a weasely little moustache and/or develop a penchant for ugly cowboy togs and Brandon will take up tai chi and/or develop a penchant for heroin? Both of 'em already have a history of combative, incomprehensible interviews, at least.

We need a moratorium on Danger Mouse helming rock albums, stat.
Anything would be an improvement over how the Black Keys have sounded until now.
Rent must be due at Lou's place.
this isn't a sign of the apocalypse, it's a billboard the size of the bronx.
@Juancho: I flat-out disagree. I think it could produce interesting results. Why do only rock producers have to helm rock records? DM is a huge psychedelic and E6 fan. And I admire different drum sounds.
Jess, this line was classic (and so, so true): "but I bet the drums still sound like damp feathers slapping together"
@Lucas Jensen: @Juancho:
I agree. I like the song DM did with the Rapture on their last record.
So, let's get this straight....we don't like it when bands do the same thing album in, album out.
And we don't like it when bands do something different.
The more I read this site, the more it resembles Ain't It Cool News, with perhaps only slightly less "living in my parents' basement" vibe coming from the authors. Does anyone have anything good to say about anyone? (Other than the auters behind the Monty Python tribute vids, that is...)
actually, my distaste for dangermouse's production aesthetic was about the only editorial comment offered on either of these pairings, let alone this mythical "same thing"/"something different" non-dichotomy. i think reading "ain't it cool news" has rotted out someone's reading comprehension.
(by the way, i would be more than fine with the killers re-recording "mr. brightside" for the next 10 years straight.)
