The Smoking Gun has the details on Mariah Carey's efforts to thwart porn star Mary Carey from trademarking her stage name: Yesterday, Mariah's lawyers filed an opposition with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, claiming that consumers could potentially confuse Mariah with Mary, the star of such porn films as Double Air Bags 11 (you really have to see parts 7 through 9 to catch up on that one). Some of the highlights of the court papers include:
- Mariah titled her business company Automatic Princess Holdings, which she only took after realizing that names like Puffy-Stickers Of Miniature Ponys!! and HotPantsed Americans were already taken.
- The list of consumer goods that are registered in the Mariah Carey name included musical recordings, posters, and—most importantly—barrettes.
- Phrases like "...due to the overwhelming fame and popularity of Mariah Carey"—and the fact that Carey's name is repeatedly typed in all-caps—leads us to believe that Mariah herself did some ghostwriting on this one.

Glitter II: The Quickening
Mariah came up as my top match when I uploaded my picture to one of those celeb face-lookalike sites. I'm not sure how I feel about that.
