Now that Tower Records stores around the world are closing their doors, we've dispatched some specially trained consumer-crazed hobgoblins to the discount bins, in search of a good deal. Alas, all we've found so far is a lot of so-so crap. But it's cheap so-so crap! If you've found a great deal at Tower, send the sales info (see below) and an MP3 to tips@idolator.com.
Artist: The Outfield
Album: Play Deep
List Price: $9.99
Minus 40% discount: $5.99
Minus additional 20% Tuesday-night discount: $4.79
Deal or no deal?: Well, it's not like Deep is out of print or anything. But we felt guilty about still listening to our seven-year-old Napster bootleg of "Your Love" at the gym, so we ponied up. And while these guys will never be accused of going too lo-fi production—lordy, turn those sing-along chourses down a few notches, woulda?—it's well worth your five dollars. So yes, a mild deal.

Totally worth it. If only because it reminds me of the summer of 1986 when my brother played this CD and the Top Gun soundtrack incessantly.
It's actually a really good record the whole way through, and definitely a score for under five bucks.
Joining the ever growing ranks of American Idol has-beens, Bo Bice was going for $1.99 at Amoeba in LA. But even for $1.99, my brother wouldn't shoulder the humiliation and buy it for me. Wuss.
The tower's here in Las Vegas still had good stuff at the 70% markdown price. They really did themselves a disservice by putting themselves right next to a best buy, where the equivalent CD is always several dollars cheaper.
Tower's business model (lets charge more and hope they don't notice) was a failure, good riddance.
