White Bread, Black Beer, the most recent album from postpunk/New Romantic refugees Scritti Politti, placed at No. 2 on the Uncut best-of-'06 list we posted earlier this week, and it's been near to our hearts since its UK release this spring. Green Gartside's bell-clear voice is in fine shape, and the album is full of spare, politically tinged meditations that fully realize the potential hinted at in one of our favorite older Scritti songs, the ramshackle, melancholy "Confidence."
