The other day, we found out that Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" went way beyond the "clean" and "dirty" versions that usually get sent out; there are actually seven versions of the track, and we've unearthed the take that dubs itself as the Mandarin version. Unfortunately, as we learned from giving the song a spin, it's only the chorus that's been translated, so don't expect Avril to teach the world how to say "she's like, so whatever" in more than one language:
Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend (Mandarin version) [MP3, link removed; via POPtastic!]
No Canadian version? [Goldenfiddle]

Maybe post the Buhloone Mindstate track with the Japanese dudes.
If you want to hear a truly awful foreign language version of a pop hit, pick up Bryan Adams' "Everything I Do", in Spanish. It is the most painful thing I've ever heard. Canadians, please do us all a favor, and stick to the following languages:
-English
-French
-perhaps patra (if you born in the one Toronto).
That is all.
I'm holding out for the Esperanto version.
C'mon Binary!
Is there going to be a "tolerable" version?
@stopmikelupica: Oh God, I had to suffer that on the radio for a while. I was very little, though, so everything is (mostly) forgotten. Phew.
Why'd she have to go and makes things so translated?
From my blog Pop China:
Her pronunciation is terrible, which is a shame because she has such a nice voice. I teach English in China. Some of my students dig her. I wonder if they still will after they hear this song. Apparently she's recorded versions in several languages. I guess she's grown tired of her global popularity and wants to return to her core Canadian audience. As long as she keeps her head down and doesn't make it into the major metropolitan areas where people speak those languages, she might be ok.
YEAH!, for the tribe!
By the way, what colour are her roots?
Looks like she's working on a sign language version too. Isn't that the sign for "teen angst" she's making in that picture?
