We asked, and we have received: Here's the new Idlewild single, "If It Takes You Home," from next month's Make Another World. The Scottish band hasn't landed a U.S. deal since parting ways with Capitol—or at least not one that we're aware of—so who knows when this will make its way to our shores. We'll have a further report on World after we get in a few spins, but "Home" is one of their less Stipe-swiping numbers, and punchiner than anything on 2005's Warning/Promises.

Sounds much closer to THE REMOTE PART...
If this record is geared in that direction, I will be excited to hear it...
Without a doubt, one of the most underrated bands of the decade so far. 100 Broken Windows & The Remote Part are both brilliant.
I think Vagrant Records would be a good home for them here. They signed up The Futureheads and The Lemonheads in the last year.
I always felt the R.E.M. comparison on these guys was a little facile. I hear elements of '90s quiet-loud, a Nirvana/Sonic Youth thing run through a Posies machine. I dunno, is it just me?
Whatever...word on Broken Windows and Remote Part kicking ass, and they deserve a U.S. record deal, obviously.
this is an encouraging return to form; Warnings/Promises was bad news.
also, i heart these guys, but roddy woomble writes some bad, bad lyrics.
I dunno, dennisobell, the R.E.M. echo is always there for me; there's one song on this record that I actually thought was from a cover of some Warner-era R.E.M. song I'd forgotten about.
On a vaguely related sidenote I saw Stipe and co. at Madison Square Garden on the last tour, and rushing toward the VIP section at the end was Mr. Roddy "Da Warble" Woomble himself.
i believe idlewild may be on sanctuary here now; that's the label releasing roddy's solo album that came out last year in the UK. which is nice, pastoral folky music.
fucking great band. underrated as all get out, super great live. and the REM thing *is* totally always there. i've always called them a mix of REM/smiths/husker du.
