Thanks to 20 Jazz Funk Greats for posting a new song by the incredible Japanese noisemakers Melt-Banana; we had no idea that they were about to unleash Bambi's Dilemma, their first new album in four years, and if "Cat Brain Land" is any indication, we are going to be freaking out to it a lot over the next few months. "Cat" takes a beat from the Beastie Boys, sticks it in a blender, and sets the setting to somewhere between "purée" and "shred":

I am all about Katman in that friends list.
I like it. That's surely the poppiest I've ever heard them.
I'm a little excited for the new album. Anyone else hear the Agata solo stuff on Tzadik? Did he have more than one album?
the new record is a foray into...now get this, "bassless theramin-core". Read into it what you will. I'll likely be attending their show for the privilege of hearing Yasuko's sped-up hyper yelping. Hands down best in the biz.
Back in the 90's, Smelly Mutafa of Plainfield took Melt Banana on tour (I think he used to roadie for them) and wrote a MRR column on it. I looked for any links to it, but came up empty; the links I did find where not formatted for readibility. Anyone know what I'm talking about and have a link?
The Dickies-meets-Cibo Matto?
And let's give a hand to what's possibly the best blog out there, no? If I let a week go by without checking 20 Jazz Funk Greats, I crash the 'ol laptop while donwloading 15 tracks at once.
