"Warning" by the Baltimore duo Monarch just landed in our inbox, and we'd be damned if it hasn't already claimed a space on our top 10 songs of right now; it's a pop song dressed up in layers and layers of feedbacking guitars and slightly distorted, sing-song vocals by Jenn Wasner, and it sounds like the work of at least fifteen musical scientists instead of two. "Regret," on which Andy Stack takes over vocal duties, isn't as gloriously huge as "Warning," but it does have a gentle, firefly-studded-evening vibe:

I saw Monarch for the first time about 6 months ago and the more I think back on it it was one of the best shows I've seen all year. Still haven't had a chance to pick up the album but I think I've listened to "Obituary" on MySpace 50 times now.
Maura, you're still twee as fuck.
These kids are totally sweet. And hopefully they won't be confused with French doom-metalmeisters Monarch.
