Morrissey Proteges Come Out Swinging Against Dad Rockers

the_orphans.jpgKristeen Young—a piano-drums combo that's opening for Morrissey on his European tour—released their kill-rock-stars siren call "Kill the Father" on Mozzer's Attack label in August. The song is a glorious, noisy riot, with lead singer/pianist/band namesake Kristeen banging the ivories while calling for the elimination of nearly every sacred cow the Rolling Stone set reveres. And we weren't kidding about "every"—even David Bowie isn't safe, although he should know how to fight back.

  • That's actually one of the more flamboyant bands the Moz has had on tour over all these years.

  • Yeah, yeah yeah... what about the REAL issue: when is Morrissey (Hallowed Be Thy Name) gonna come to the US?!?

  • Wow. A song like that could make Greil Marcus reflect on his musical loves. After hearing this call to arms, he'd wonder if it was time to thrown down the gauntlet decrying the hegemony of rock made by men. Then, after careful consideration, he'd write 800 words on a Balkan prince in pre-war Croatia and the importance of Dada in Western pop music.

  • ...and then he'd write another book on Dylan, reimagining Bob as a 19-year-old woman.

  • .....Not too bad, even considering that I'm seriously into Jimi and Led Zep. But, I did have to Google up the lyrics. Most old farts aren't going to get the message just listening! Interesting game done at the beginning with the piano sample. A little bit of a swing beat injected into this would really liven it up. Sounds a little too mechanical as it is. Girl's got some range, though.
