Our two posts about the soundtrack for the early-millennium remake of Josie & The Pussycats received such a good response, we figured it'd be a good time to play compare and contrast with some songs attributed to the original Pussycats that were released in the early '70s. A tipster sent along two tracks from their oeuvre, the CD version of which is now out of print; the band, which was a collection of session musicians fronted by Cathy Dougher, Cherie "Cheryl Ladd" Moor, and Patrice Holloway, released an album and a series of 45-rpm singles that were available via mailorder from Kellogg's. We've been a fan of the conga-crazy "Road Runner" since our footie-pajama days, while our tipster pleaded for us to give the frothy "Letter To Mama" a shake because, as he put it, "There are not enough tunes out there encouraging small children to hitch-hike, in my opinion."
