Welcome to another edition of "Please Release Me," in which your Idolators request—nay beg—that an out-of-print, delayed or held-up-in-customs album be issued Stateside:
Artist: Siobhan Donaghy
Hometown: United Kingdom
Albums: Ghosts, out June 2007
What is it?: The second solo album from this ex-Sugababe (who, in the group's earliest press, was dubbed "the indie one") will, according to her claims, be influenced by Brian Eno, the Cocteau Twins, and Kate Bush; from what we've heard, Donaghy's put a pop spin on those influences that's at once delightful (because it sounds so good) and chilling (because it sounds kinda gloomy).
Where is it?: We're going to start beating the drum for this album to come out Stateside now, if only because we remember the long lag time between the UK and US releases of One Touch all too well. "Don't Give It Up" was released in the UK yesterday, and our attempt to purchase a legit copy from the iTunes Store this afternoon ended with our 99 cents staying in our pocket. (We have a low-bitrate MP3 that we're on the verge of wearing out, so if you have a higher-quality version, you know what to do.) Today, arjanwrites released an MP3 of the track "Sometimes," which incorporates a shutting-down jet engine into its dreamy swirl, and that only served to whet our appetite further.

the inability to buy music on the foreign itunes irks me to no end. Why is that? are the currency conversion costs prohibitive on 99 cent purchases?
The whole album is brilliant. And yes, it is great to see music like this - that is clearly amazing - actually having an outlet to be shown in the US, because she is great, isn't she.
"from what we've heard, Donaghy's put a pop spin on those influences that's at once delightful (because it sounds so good) and chilling (because it sounds kinda gloomy)...."
...and totally derivative of Goldfrapp.
And Cocteau Twins? Where? Elizabeth Fraser would kick this girl's ass--in a brooding, slightly-pissed-off way.
@Chicago Bureau: Music could stand a few more Goldfrapp cribbing bands I figure.
This is good but it's no Sugababes.
I'm surprised there was such a lag between Parlophone sending out promo tracks for "Don't Give It Up" and the release of the single... they sent me the Medicine 8 remix of the track back in January... I'll go back and see if I can find it and send it to you...
