This weekend, we picked up the import-only comp 7" Up!, a collection of rare British post-punk songs from the '80s. There are a handful of Thatcher-era round-ups on the market these days, but Up! is a lean overview of this tinny, poppy sound, without which Franz Ferdinand would still just be another world war-instigating foreign assassinatee. Three of our favorite tracks are below, but this one is worth the slightly higher-than-average sticker price:
The Monochrome Set - Eine Symphonie Des Grauens [MP3, link expired]
Henry Badowski - Making Love With My Wife [MP3, link expired]
Weekend - Drumbeat For Baby [MP3, link expired]
Crippled Dick Hot Wax [Official Site]

Just got this myself the other day; v. entertaining. It also makes a change from Yet Another Sixties Garage Rock Obscurity comp. (I fear the eventual 10th-rate Grunge Era comps, though.)
