Compiling a year-end Top 10 list means making plenty of painful nips, tucks, and tweaks. And so, as we prepare our Jackin' Pop singles lists, we present "Stuck At Eleven," a daily look at the songs that came thisclose to making the final cut.
Everyone wants Kelis to make a start-to-finish great record, but that's looking less likely with each new album: Kelis Was Here has a half-dozen or so exciting moments—including "Bossy," which at least got some Kels some love on the radio—but at 17 songs, it's just too damn long and unwieldy. The Scott Storch-produced "Trilogy," though, is a bubbly '80s throwback that maintains Kelis' idiosyncrasy—when she talks about wanting to travel through space, she sounds as if she actually wants to travel through space—while still dropping a Jacob reference.

I would say Tasty was very nearly a start-to-finish good album - good, not great, but still. It was sort of a perfect amalgamation of the Neptunes' retro-'80s sound with a kind of sheeny-shiny R&B. I Top 10'd it in Pazz & Jop a coupla years ago.
I do agree with you about the overlong and erratic nature of Was Here; been listening to it this week for Jackin' Pop purposes, and it just doesn't quite cut it.
Yes Yes Yes! This song shines like a diamond in the rough. Is it just me or does Scott Storch do a good job of getting his Neptune on with that beat?
