We stumbled upon a show by the Delaware-based indie-rock duo The Sky Drops the other night, and it was one of the nicest bits of concert-going serendipity we've experienced in a while (and we're not going to chalk that fact up to our hermitude alone). Their guitar-and-drums setup didn't prepare us for the fact that they make an absolutely massive sound, one which sweeps up giant pieces of bend-the-mind guitar fuzz and perfectly blended male-female harmonies. We've been listening to their EP for a good chunk of the day, and we can't get over the way "You Don't Crawl" builds:

IF THE SHOE DON'T FIT
Holy cow! That's some great music. I just went online and ordered the EP. (hopping from foot to foot in front of the mail box now.)
Ex-Smashing Orange!
.....I like that guitar sound! It's very late 60s/psychedelic, but with modern spatial techniques. Nice use of 7ths in the chord progression, too. The bass is huge without dominating all of the sonic room. They were channeling Syd Barrett when they recorded this, I just know it!
i saw them in boston with a place to bury strangers and they made me feel all fuzzy inside. that guitarist has gotten kevin shields' excellent tone down pat. still couldn't believe how evocative his chords are.
