The Smoking Section has two new MP3s—most likely ripped via MySpace—from Idolator-beloved soul-rock singer Van Hunt: "God Moves At Midnight" is an anguished slow-burner, while "You Need My Attention" is Van's most new-wave-influenced song to date. Both tracks are solid, and they've gotten us pretty excited for the next VH album, even if we're not entirely sure if he survived the EMI-Virgin shake-up.

It's criminal how little Capitol did/has done with Van Hunt, especially with the last album. He's one of the best cats out there. THIS is what should be on the radio.
I cannot begin to express how much I dig Van Hunt; I've been a big fan from the debut. It amazes me how this guy is not more 'popular' in the 'popular music' world. It doesn't get much funkier or soulful - in today's music.
The second mp3 is just a rocked out remix to "Anything (To Get Your Attention)" from his debut. It's nice though.
I like Van and he's no doubt incredibly talented but I don't always like his songs. Some are BRILLIANT ("Hold My Hand") but some leave a little to be desired, which still makes them better than much of the soulish stuff coming out now. Also he was incredibly awkward onstage when I saw him live a few years back. I wonder if he's gotten any better.
I liked him more when he was called Cody Chesnutt, and I only kinda liked it.
