Granted, the Awkward Stage may be responsible for the second-worst album cover of the year, but don't hold that against frontman Shane Nelken, who looks as uncomfortable posing for that photo as we are looking at it. Nelken is one of the of the 2,426 freelance alt-pop musicans currently residing in Canada, and the Stage's Heaven Is For Easy Girls (due out next month) has a lot of the same lo-fi charm and sneaky bite as his peers. We like.
(And yes, it only took us a little more than a week to start pimping obscure Canadian bands. How predictable.)

Next up, celebrating the Peter Parkers and Sianspheric. I trust.
Personally, I'd like to know what Neusiland is up to these days. Thanks.
(Regarding a less obscure -- but still underperforming -- Canadian band: the new Sloan album is fantastic. I just had to say it.)
* second best album cover
Well, first off, you can all suck it for your Canada bashing. Once you're done that, go check CBC Radio 3, especially their weekly podcast. There's a tonne of great music up here, and its not all about jiggin' squid on the squid jiggin' grounds.
